Faith, Family, and Passion: The Three Pillars
In the hustle of entrepreneurship, it’s easy to chase success at the expense of everything else, health, relationships, and even meaning itself. I discovered, the hard way, that sustainable success doesn’t come from working harder or following another ten-step program. It comes from alignment. Specifically, alignment with what I refer to as three pillars, on which we rest our No Zero Days on.
What Are the Three Pillars?
For me, the pillars formed when I grabbed a pen and scribbled out the things that truly guide my life:
Faith
Family and friends
My entrepreneurial passions
Everything else? It comes after. That simple list was the complete inverse of how I’d lived for the previous decade. And it was monumental, not because it was complicated or flashy, but because it was simple.
No color-coded calendars. No exhaustive checklists. Just clarity. Once I set my top two priorities, everything else, business, personal goals, big dreams, could move forward without guilt or distraction. That’s when I fell in love with the concept of No Zero Days: making small, intentional steps every day toward what matters most.
Why Faith Matters
Faith, or spirituality, or connection to a higher purpose, is the compass that keeps the other pillars grounded. Without it, your actions risk becoming purely transactional: chasing results without meaning. Faith provides perspective and calm in the storm, helping you answer the deeper question: Why am I doing this at all?
Why Family and Relationships Matter
Family, friends, and community form the anchor of your life. Prioritizing time and love for those closest to you ensures that success doesn’t come at the cost of your humanity. When your relationships thrive, everything else, your business, your passions, your mental health, thrives alongside them.
Why Passion Matters
Finally, your passions, be they entrepreneurial, creative, or professional, are the spark that ignites your energy. They’re what you pursue fully because they make you feel alive. Aligning your passions with your other pillars allows you to go “full throttle” without guilt, knowing that your foundation is solid.
How to Identify Your Pillars
Not everyone’s pillars look the same. Here’s a simple framework to discover yours:
List five sources of meaning beyond achievement, faith, family, friendship, creativity, service, and purpose.
Circle the three that feel foundational. These are your pillars.
Rank them by importance. There’s no right or wrong here.
Test them in daily life. Ask yourself: What would life feel like with this as my guidepost? What would it feel like without it?
If more than three resonate, take time to understand which truly inspire action. Over time, your pillars may evolve, and that’s okay. Revisiting them periodically keeps your life aligned with your deepest values.
Daily Anchors: Small Actions with Big Impact
Once your pillars are clear, honor them daily. It doesn’t have to be intense, consistency beats intensity.
For faith, it might be a prayer or a gratitude practice.
For family, a loving message, a shared meal, or focused time together.
For passion, one intentional step toward a project that excites you.
Even tiny actions compound into massive progress when aligned with your pillars. That’s the essence of No Zero Days.
Alignment is the secret that high achievers often overlook. By centering life on your pillars, faith, family, and passion, you create a stable triangle that supports sustainable success, meaning, and joy. Success becomes less about burning out and more about moving forward with purpose, one intentional step at a time.
